floaticon FLOAT
The FLOAT Program, funded by the US Department of Education, serves a consortium of six school districts in Southeast Alaska. These districts are Craig, Klawock, Southeast Island, Annette (Metlakatla), Hydaburg, and Wrangell. There are three elements of the FLOAT Program. The first is FLOAT School where 10 students from each district participate in an outdoor experiential learning program that is based on standards. Students participate in research on a fully equipped research station that is anchored outside of Wrangell. The second element is learning at school. A teacher is hired at each district to support students in reaching academic success through pullout programs or remedial classes. Then the final element is home support through outreach and attention to students' mental health needs.

STRIVE
The STRIVE Project, funded by the US Department of Education, is a remedial reading program that specifically addresses the neurological processes involved in learning to read. Our program is research-based, multisensory and developed around culturally appropriate practices that enhance relationships among and across generations. The program has been piloted for two years in Craig City Schools, and has proven to be an effective, time-bound intervention that truly improves the educational experience of students in Kindergarten through 12th grade.Ê Partners in the consortium include Klawock City Schools, Hydaburg City Schools, the Annette Island School District, and the Craig Community Association.
